California Lane - The latest addition to The Lanes Fortitude Valley

The California Cafe was one of Brisbane’s original cafe offerings on the corner of Brunswick & McLachlan Street, Fortitude Valley. It was an institution in the 1950’s bringing locals and travellers together over hearty meals and good old fashion service. This legacy has been resurrected in the form of a unique urban space; aptly named California Lane. The design will incorporate retro elements from the nostalgic years of California. Think neon signs, pastel walls and artwork: Cali Lane is going to be a place of discovery and we hate to say it but you’re probably going to see it on Instagram.

Audio and Video for an outdoor arcade

Part of the modern city appeal of laneways is to offer an enhanced audio visual experience for tenants and patrons alike. The lanes embrace fashion, art and culture which is evident in the their selection of retailers and hosted events.

The AV system had to support the daily requirements of the lane, which for the most part is providing background music. However there are scheduled events to switch some or all of the loudspeakers ON/OFF at different times of the day depending whether retailers wanted to provide their own store music. The system zoning was based around the retailers and how the lane could be split into different areas for different events. Two inputs are available for live musicians and DJs to connect to the in-house system reducing setup time and the need for hired equipment.

The lane is also equipped with a 5000 ANSI lumen laser projector that is used for screening independent films and visual art installations.
