About the Audio Visual

Audio Visual was a big part of the redevelopment of Wests Rugby Union Football Club. As this was a “from the ground up” build, a whole new AV system was design to meet demands of the new venue.

Soho Sound Design was engaged to design and deliver the new system which comprises of eight zones of audio and 4 zones of video. The club house features four function rooms, public bar, board room, shared terrace with the resident cafe Pitch & Fork, stadium seating and field. The AV system services all of these spaces and is controlled via roaming iPads.

The system has two wireless mic’s that are available in all zones servicing the functions as well as game days where over 2,000 people are in attendance. The commentators do the game call from the 2nd story balcony where they also mix in music content with the microphones via the control iPad. This system allows announcements to be routed to different zones of the club, this includes both fields which are serviced by a pair of colour matched column loudspeakers which provide unprecedented clarity over long open air distances.

Another design element of the sound system is the ability for the Pitch & Fork cafe to share a zone of audio with the club. The zone belongs to the club however during the day the cafe uses the space as an outdoor seating area. It was extremely important that the cafe’s music could play there during the day and rather than installing two separate systems in the terrace. Through the use of networked audio technology, the cafe can not only share the terrace audio with the club, but also the common bathroom facilities which provides an even more fluent experience for their guests.
